Gutter Cleaning (Leaf Buildup):

To help prevent drainage problems, clean gutters and downspouts regularly throughout the fall. Removing leaves, twigs, and other debris helps maintain proper water flow and reduces the risk of overflow, water pooling, and moisture reaching areas of the home where it can cause damage.

Downspout Extension Check:

Make sure downspouts and extensions direct water several feet away from your home’s foundation. Properly positioned downspouts help prevent water from pooling around the foundation and reduce the risk of basement flooding and water intrusion.

Sump Pump Testing:

A properly functioning sump pump can be an important defense against basement flooding. Perform routine maintenance and test your sump pump before late-fall and winter precipitation increases. If your system has a battery backup, test that system as well to ensure it is ready in the event of a power outage.

Basement Moisture Inspection:

Seasonal rain and changing temperatures can expose existing moisture problems. Inspect basements and crawlspaces for signs of water intrusion, including damp areas, standing water, staining, seepage, or musty odors. Identifying these issues early can help prevent more extensive water damage and mold growth.

Drainage Grading Check:

Before freezing temperatures arrive, inspect the grading around your property to make sure water naturally flows away from your home’s foundation. Correct areas where water pools near the foundation to help reduce the risk of water intrusion and foundation-related problems.

Foundation Crack Sealing:

Inspect your foundation for cracks or other areas where water could enter the home. Addressing appropriate cracks before temperatures drop can help reduce the risk of water intrusion and prevent moisture from becoming trapped or expanding during freeze-thaw cycles. For significant or structural cracks, consider having them evaluated by a qualified professional.
